EU Shows Divided Stance on Russia-Ukraine Dialogue as Kallas Warns Against Premature Talks on June 8

According to Jin10, EU High Representative Kaja Kallas stated on June 8 that while efforts must be made to enable dialogue between Russia and Ukraine, the current moment is not appropriate for substantive negotiations. Kallas emphasized that Europe's core security interests must be respected.

EU member states hold differing views on how and when to initiate negotiations with Russia. Some countries contend that conditions for serious talks with Moscow are not yet in place, even as UK, French, and German leaders met with Ukrainian President Zelenskyy on June 7 and issued a joint statement supporting direct Russia-Ukraine dialogue.
