According to Eric Schmidt, former Google CEO, China's artificial intelligence technology gap with the United States has narrowed to less than six months, he said in May at an AI expo hosted by the Special Competitive Studies Project (SCSP). Schmidt, who previously advocated for U.S. chip export restrictions on China, acknowledged that the policy has begun to lose effectiveness. China has achieved AI model performance comparable to the U.S. mainstream models despite using inferior hardware specifications and open-source technologies, according to his remarks.
