France Orders ISPs to Block Polymarket as French Traffic Hits 578,000 Visits

According to France 24, France's national gaming regulator (ANJ) ordered internet service providers to completely block Polymarket on July 17, escalating enforcement against the prediction platform. Despite a transaction ban implemented in November 2024, French traffic to the site surged to 578,000 visits last month, prompting the regulator to deem the platform's real-time odds updates as illegal advertising. The ANJ also cited security vulnerabilities exposed after hackers breached Meteo-France's weather systems in April to manipulate prediction market data, resulting in structural compliance gaps including insufficient identity verification safeguards. Corporate violations of the blocking order carry fines up to approximately $114,000.
