Google Opens Applications for 2026 South Africa Startup Accelerator With R1M Funding Per Startup

Google today opened applications for its 2026 Google for Startups Accelerator: South Africa program, offering up to R1 million in equity-free funding to each of 15 AI-driven, South African-led startups, with applications open until 28 August 2026. The three-month hybrid program, running from 28 September to 4 December 2026, will provide selected startups with technical mentorship, direct access to Google's AI tools and cloud infrastructure, and one-to-one guidance from AI specialists. The initiative targets historically disadvantaged person-owned or controlled startups building functional AI-driven products for local market needs.

Since launching in 2018, the Google for Startups Accelerator Africa has supported over 190 startups across 17 African countries, collectively raising more than $400 million and creating over 3,500 jobs with backing from $5 million in Google equity-free funding and product credits.
