Indian Government Issues Stern Warning to Meta Over Child Abuse Ads on Instagram

According to Indian state broadcaster DD News, India's Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology issued a stern notice to Meta on Saturday over the presence of child sexual exploitative and abuse material in paid advertisements on Instagram. The government directed Instagram to immediately disable all advertisements promoting child abuse and requested a detailed explanation from Meta within seven days. The warning followed a BBC investigation that revealed Instagram was running paid advertisements promoting child sexual abuse material in India. Separately, WhatsApp was also warned over its username feature rollout, with the government claiming it could increase cybercrime incidents.
