India's Silver Imports Slump Amid New Licensing System, Premium Hits Highest Since 2019

According to Bloomberg, India's silver imports have slowed significantly in recent days due to a new licensing system that has disrupted shipping flows. Most banks have yet to receive the licenses required to import the precious metal and remain awaiting government approval, with only a handful of banks granted permission so far. The resulting supply tightness has pushed the 30-day average premium to at least its highest level since 2019. With demand remaining stable, the domestic premium is now approaching levels similar to a supply squeeze.
