KOSPI Falls 5.78% on July 7, Triggers 16th Sell-Side Circuit Breaker

According to NEWSIS, South Korea's KOSPI index fell 5.78% to 7,586.12 points on the morning of July 7, with losses exceeding 6% during the session. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, the nation's two largest semiconductor stocks, declined 7% and 6% respectively, driving the broader selloff. The sharp decline triggered the 16th sell-side circuit breaker of 2026 at 10:23 AM local time, when KOSPI 200 futures fell 5.12% below the previous close to 1,227.32 points. The circuit breaker mechanism halts program sell orders for five minutes when index futures decline 5% or more for one minute.
