According to Samsung, the company developed what it described as the industry's first Universal Flash Storage (UFS) 5.0 mobile storage product on June 23, with speeds more than 2x faster than its UFS 4.1 standard. The new solution improves power efficiency by more than 40% compared with its predecessor and measures 7.5 mm by 13 mm by 0.9 mm, representing a 16.7% size reduction. Samsung will offer the storage in capacities up to 1 terabyte.
Mass production is scheduled to begin in the fourth quarter, with the product aimed at smartphones, wearables, and extended reality devices.
