Space Stocks ASTS, RKLB, LUNR, RDW Slide Overnight; Analyst Questions SpaceX Launch Monopoly Risk

According to analyst Tim Farrar, space stocks including AST SpaceMobile (ASTS), Rocket Lab (RKLB), Intuitive Machines (LUNR), and Redwire (RDW) slid overnight into Monday (June 9), with each stock dropping over 1% following Friday's sharper decline of 8% to 14%. The selloff was triggered by concerns that SpaceX's dominance in affordable rocket launches could give it an unfair advantage in downstream space businesses, including satellite communications and orbital data centers, thereby disadvantaging competitors who rely on SpaceX for launch access. Farrar noted that if SpaceX maintains low-cost launch superiority while competing directly in markets like Starlink, smaller rivals dependent on Falcon 9 rockets—particularly ASTS, which builds competing direct-to-cell satellites—may face long-term strategic disadvantages. Bill Ackman has recently highlighted SpaceX's dominant position in orbital transportation affordability.
