Trump Administration Orders Anthropic to Suspend Fable 5 and Mythos 5 Models for Foreign Access

According to CNBC, Anthropic received an export control directive on Friday (June 13) requiring the company to suspend access to its latest Claude models, Fable 5 and Mythos 5, by all foreign nationals, including foreign employees. The administration cited national security authorities but did not specify the underlying concern. According to The Wall Street Journal, the move was prompted after Amazon CEO Andy Jassy informed U.S. officials that researchers had used prompts to extract information from Fable 5 that could aid cyberattacks. Anthropic disagreed with the directive, stating it should be part of a transparent, fair statutory process grounded in technical facts. The company's senior executives met with Trump administration officials on Monday to seek resolution.
