Trump Notifies Congress Iran Hostilities Ended on April 7, Bypassing 60-Day War Authorization on May 1

GateNews

According to the Wall Street Journal, President Trump notified Congress on Friday that hostile operations against Iran concluded on April 7, allowing the White House to circumvent congressional authorization. Under the 1973 War Powers Act, the president can deploy military forces overseas for 60 days without congressional approval. Trump’s 60-day authority expires on May 1. Trump’s letter stated that a temporary ceasefire agreement was reached on April 7 and has been extended. If hostilities resume, the 60-day countdown would reset.
