Trump expressed his hope to continue hosting the dinner and pledged to reschedule the event as soon as possible. He noted he had not received any briefing about threats prior to the dinner. Trump also referenced previous assassination attempts against him and called on Americans to “bridge their differences.” He mentioned that members of both parties condemned the incident that evening and expressed gratitude to media representatives, praising them for “very responsible reporting.”
When asked whether the shooting was connected to tensions with Iran, Trump stated: “I don’t think so.”
