UK Retail Sales Grow 1.9% in June Despite Record Heat Wave, Boosted by World Cup

According to a report from the British Retail Consortium (BRC) and KPMG released on July 14, UK retail sales grew 1.9% year-over-year during the five-week period from May 31 to July 4, despite record-breaking temperatures. Online sales reached their highest proportion of 2026, driven by timely promotional activities. Demand for fans and air conditioning units surged, while World Cup-related purchases lifted sales of home electronics, food, and beverages, according to BRC CEO Helen Dickinson.
