UN Report: 655 Million People Lack Access to Electricity, Sub-Saharan Africa Lags

According to a report released by multiple UN agencies on June 24, 655 million people globally lack access to electricity. Sub-Saharan Africa accounts for the majority of this gap, with over 560 million people without electricity and 970 million unable to access clean cooking energy. The report warns that without urgent and scaled-up action, the world will miss Sustainable Development Goal 7 target of ensuring universal access to reliable and affordable modern energy by 2030.
