U.S. Senate Passes Housing Bill with Four-Year CBDC Ban, 85-5 Vote

The U.S. Senate passed the 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act this week with an 85-5 margin, including a provision that bans the Federal Reserve from issuing, creating, or distributing a central bank digital currency (CBDC) to the general public until December 31, 2030. According to Fox Business, the temporary restriction freezes any digital dollar initiative for at least four years. Fed Chair Kevin Warsh has stated he does not support a U.S. CBDC, calling it a "bad policy choice."
