Cryptocurrency Users Beware: New Methods of Hackers Have Emerged! What is Needed to Prevent Losing All Holdings?

The Security Chief of the Crypto exchange Kraken, (CSO) Nick Percoco, warned users about increasing security risks at the organized cryptocurrency conference.

Percoco stated that open Wi-Fi connections used in events, fake QR codes, unattended devices, and USB charging stations pose serious threats.

In a statement published on Kraken’s official blog, Percoco said that personal security has taken a back seat at crypto conferences that are becoming more global and larger in scale each year. “These events, spreading from New York to Dubai, from Singapore to all corners of the world, are a sign that crypto has entered the mainstream. However, alongside this growth, a quiet but concerning trend has emerged: the necessary importance given to personal security measures has started to diminish,” he said.

Kraken’s security team identified numerous open security vulnerabilities at the conferences they attended. Examples such as abandoned and unlocked laptops, and unprotected phones receiving wallet notifications on the desktop, show that digital assets can be easily put at risk.

Percoco warned, “In the crypto world, digital devices are not just a phone or a computer; they are the vaults for your crypto assets and the organization you are affiliated with. Always keep your devices locked and never take your eyes off them.”

The statement emphasized that participants discussing high-value transactions in public areas with conference badges poses a significant risk. Percoco noted that this situation makes it easier for malicious individuals to target individuals, saying, “Someone may be listening to you. Be careful.”

The Kraken team also issued warnings against fake QR codes and malicious USB charging stations at event venues. “With just a QR code label swap, hundreds of participants can be put at risk. We recommend using low-balance, limited-access wallets for events,” it was stated.

Additionally, it was stated that users should use their own charging adapters against the threat known as “juice jacking,” which involves malware being loaded onto devices through USB charging stations.
