A Canadian woman filed a lawsuit after losing 1.3 million dollars in Bitcoin due to a SIM-Swap eyewash.

CoinVoice has learned that Raelene Vandenbosch, a pharmacy manager from Canada, lost 12.58 Bitcoin in a SIM card swap eyewash worth millions of dollars, now valued at approximately $1.36 million. She has filed a lawsuit against the telecommunications company Rogers Communications and Match Transact Inc., blaming this devastating loss on a security lapse by a mobile store employee.

Vandenbosch claims that a scammer posing as a technician convinced the staff to share their computer screen, allowing the hacker to access the Rogers customer database. Subsequently, the hacker gained access to her cryptocurrency wallets on Ledger and Shakepay, stealing all Bitcoin worth approximately $392,704.61 at the time. Vandenbosch is suing for negligence, invasion of privacy, and breach of contract.

Rogers and Match have neither admitted nor denied these allegations, but instead claim to resolve the dispute through private arbitration. A recent ruling from the British Columbia Supreme Court mandated that most of the case must go to arbitration, but allowed Vandenbosch to make an exception by publicly acknowledging the claims of misconduct in open court.
