According to ChainCatcher news reported by Protos, scammers are using AI tools to steal crypto assets through deep fakes and wallet drainers. Decentralized Finance (DeFi) developer Joey Santoro said that a fren of his recently lost 2 million dollars in a complex deep fake scam.
The scammers used deepfake audio of Paul Faecks, the founder of the stablecoin blockchain Plasma, to pitch a consultant position to Santoro’s fren and lured the victim into opening a file during the call, thereby obtaining their password and private key. Santoro warned users to isolate their crypto assets from everyday devices as much as possible.
