The cryptocurrency exchange Coinbase announced on Monday that it has reached an acquisition agreement for the prediction market startup The Clearing Company, further expanding its “all-in-one exchange” strategy.
Coinbase just launched the prediction market feature last week, allowing users to bet on the outcomes of events such as election results, economic data, and even sports events within the existing crypto assets, derivatives, and US stock trading interfaces.
Coinbase stated that this transaction is expected to be officially completed in January 2026.
The Clearing Company was established earlier this year by Toni Gemayel. He previously worked at two major prediction market platforms, Polymarket and Kalshi, serving as the Director of Growth Strategy. The company completed a $15 million seed round of financing in August this year, with investors including Coinbase Ventures, aiming to build a compliant on-chain prediction market platform.
After the acquisition is completed, The Clearing Company's team of about 10 people will be almost entirely integrated into Coinbase, responsible for optimizing and expanding Coinbase's prediction market products.
Coinbase's prediction market service currently provides liquidity mainly through the platform Kalshi, which is regulated by the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), and will further support more platforms and different types of markets in the future.
