The six major state-owned banks announced: Starting tomorrow, interest will be calculated on the balance of digital RMB real-name wallets, with the current savings account interest rate at 0.05%.
PANews December 31 News, the six major state-owned banks—Bank of China, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Agricultural Bank of China, China Construction Bank, Bank of Communications, and Postal Savings Bank—announced today that starting from January 1, 2026, they will pay interest on the digital renminbi real-name wallet balances opened at these banks based on the bank’s current deposit rate, with the interest calculation rules consistent with those for current accounts. The current current deposit rate is 0.05%. Currently, digital renminbi wallets are divided into four categories. Among them, the first, second, and third categories are real-name wallets, while the fourth category is an anonymous wallet. The fourth category wallets are not considered “real-name wallets” for interest calculation by the banks.
Industrial and Commercial Bank of China states that the wallet operating institution will deduct and pay interest tax (if any) according to law. ICBC notes that interest is settled on the 20th of the last month of each quarter and credited on the 21st. Until the interest settlement date, the interest is calculated at the current rate announced on the date of account closure, up to the day before the account is closed.
