Economist Peter Schiff recently posted on X that the Strategy (MSTR) stock, although not included in the S&P 500 basket, would rank among the six worst-performing stocks in 2025 if it were added to this index, with a decline of 47.5%.
According to Schiff, Chairman Michael Saylor once stated that the best thing a business can do is buy Bitcoin, and the core strategy of Strategy also revolves around this viewpoint. However, he criticized that focusing almost entirely on Bitcoin has not provided sustainable value for shareholders.
Schiff emphasized that the sharp decline of MSTR stock is evidence of the risk when a company’s fate is closely tied to the volatility of the cryptocurrency market. He believes this strategy may be attractive during a hot market cycle, but when the cycle reverses, shareholders must bear significant losses.
