XRP Surpasses BNB to Become the World’s Third-Largest Cryptocurrency

XRP0,46%
BNB0,25%

XRP then took over the third spot in the crypto rankings as it edged Binance Coin as the third-largest cryptocurrency in the world in terms of market capitalization. As of January 3, 2026, with or without the inclusion of stablecoins in rankings, the market cap of XRP stood at around 123 billion, and BNB at 121 billion. This development is an indication of a new wave in XRP after several months of stagnation and distrust.

Powerful Price Spurt Causes Flip

The market cap was flipped with XRP recording a 8.3% price growth within 24 hours. Volume grew in large exchanges with buyers buying XRP aggressively. This action saw XRP outpace BNB which was relatively weak during the same time. The rally showed that XRP was able to raise money in a short period of time in case of sentiment change.

Investors have now returned to invest in XRP due to greater regulatory clarity of the asset. The elimination of a legal gray area renewed institutional and retail interest. The players in the market no longer consider XRP as a legal hazard, but rather as a liquid infrastructure asset. This plot twist was a major point in the revived demand of XRP.

XRP Shows Mid-Cycle Strength

The large-cap altcoins frequently exhibit periods of relative strength bursts on the mid-cycle stages. The breakout of XRP follows past trends in which the leading altcoins dominate and then the expansions of market take place widely. History demonstrates that there have been repetitive rotations of this type 2 to 6 weeks prior to acceleration in the market of altcoins. The shift of XRP is an indication of an increasing interest in proven networks rather than in hypothetical coins.

XRP Demand is Liquidity and Utility Supported

XRP is advantaged by a deep liquidity and regular use cases of payment across borders. XRP has been highly appreciated in terms of speed and cost-effectiveness in institutions that want an alternative to conventional settlement systems. This utility is what distinguishes XRP as compared to numerous large-cap competitors that depend mostly on speculation. The XRP is still able to gain as utility-driven stories continue to rebound.

The competition that BNB encountered as a result of centralized exchange regulation and Layer-1 competitors was more intense. Although it is still a significant asset, market participants are more likely to diversify the exposure instead of putting capital in exchange-linked tokens. This rotation enabled the XRP to regain market share.

BNB is under Competitive Pressure

The backside has shown a wider change of attitude to more resilient cryptocurrencies. The demand is shifting towards assets that are more regulatory, liquid and historically relevant as opposed to newer tokens that are high-risk. This preference is in the resurgence of XRP.

The news caused a high level of interaction on the social sites. Traders emphasized the ability of XRP to withstand the market multi-cycle and survive. Favorable attitude strengthened the movement because new consumers came to market after change of the ranking. The short-term price action usually speeded up by social validation.

The increase of XRP supports the concept that capital flows to big-cap altcoins in the limited market periods. Such actions typically lead to an increased involvement in the market and a new interest in retailing. Other established altcoins can mimic the paths of other established altcoins in case momentum persists.
