The Trump administration considers spending money to persuade Greenlanders to "join" the United States

Odaily Planet Daily reports that four informed sources revealed that U.S. officials had discussed providing one-time payments to Greenlanders in an attempt to persuade them to break away from Denmark and possibly “join” the United States. Although the specific amounts and payment methods are not yet clear, sources disclosed that U.S. officials (including White House officials) had discussed payment amounts ranging from $10,000 to $100,000 per person. The idea of directly paying residents of Greenland, an overseas territory of Denmark, can be seen as an attempt by the U.S. to “buy” this island with a population of 57,000, despite both Denmark and Greenland authorities insisting that Greenland is not for sale.
