On Friday local time, reports emerged of U.S.-Israeli coalition airstrikes on Iran’s heavy water reactor and uranium concentrate factory. However, Iran emphasized that neither incident resulted in casualties, nor was there any radioactive material leakage. Several of Iran’s nuclear facilities were also attacked, and Iran’s Foreign Minister condemned the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for its ineffective response.
Iran warned that if attacks on its domestic facilities persist, it would launch retaliatory strikes against steel and industrial facilities in Israel and multiple countries in the Persian Gulf, naming potential targets including Saudi Arabia’s Hadeed, the UAE’s Emirates Steel Arkan, Qatar’s Qatar Steel, Bahrain’s Foulath, Kuwait’s Kuwait Steel, and Israel’s Yehuda Steel.
U.S.-Israeli coalition raids Iranian nuclear facilities
The U.S.-Israeli coalition launched a two-phase airstrike on the Khondab heavy water reactor facility in Arak on Friday evening local time, which Iranian media described as a “criminal act of aggression.” Additionally, the Ardakan uranium concentrate production plant in Yazd province was also attacked. However, Iran emphasized that neither incident caused casualties, and under existing safety measures, there was no radioactive material leakage, posing no pollution risk to nearby residents.
During the same period, several of Iran’s core nuclear facilities were also affected, including the Bushehr nuclear power plant, which was recently hit by missiles twice, although officials stated that there were no financial, technical, or personnel losses; the Natanz Shahid Ahmadi Roshan enrichment facility also suffered two attacks.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has written to the United Nations Security Council, calling for condemnation of the relevant actions and accountability, and criticized the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for its ineffective response.
Iran’s steel infrastructure suffers severe damage
In addition to nuclear facilities, the industrial production system also became a target for attacks. Foreign media reported that U.S.-Israeli airstrikes further targeted Iran’s steel industry, attacking Mobarakeh Steel in Isfahan province and Khouzestan Steel in Khuzestan province. The Mobarakeh steel mill’s power facilities were damaged, resulting in one death and two injuries; Khouzestan steel mill reported 16 minor injuries.
Both companies are core to Iran’s steel supply chain, with Mobarakeh being one of the largest steel producers in the Middle East. Iran’s Ministry of Industry stated that an expert team has been dispatched to assess the damages on-site and will announce a reconstruction plan.
Iran warns of strikes on industrial facilities in six Middle Eastern countries
In terms of Iran’s countermeasures, Iran has warned that if attacks on its domestic facilities continue, it will launch retaliatory strikes against steel and industrial facilities in Israel and multiple countries in the Persian Gulf, naming potential targets including Saudi Arabia’s Hadeed, the UAE’s Emirates Steel Arkan, Qatar’s Qatar Steel, Bahrain’s Foulath, Kuwait’s Kuwait Steel, and Israel’s Yehuda Steel.
Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization also pointed out on social media that attacks on “peaceful use nuclear facilities” constitute a blatant violation of international law and warned that this would pose a serious threat to regional security.
