Amazon Managed Blockchain Will Offer New Bitcoin Lookup Service

The access and query capabilities of the AMB have been extended to provide serverless and scalable access to the blockchain, starting with the Bitcoin network.

Amazon Managed Blockchain (AMB) has announced upgrades to its access and query capabilities, leading the tech giant deeper into Web3. The announcement, made at the two-day AWS Web3/Blockchain Summit in New York on July 26, represents a major step forward for Amazon in advancing blockchain services.

Amazon Managed Blockchain is a blockchain-as-a-service (BaaS) platform designed to make it easier for enterprises, startups, and individual developers to create and maintain scalable blockchain networks. The move to enhance AMB’s access and query capabilities provides users with increased access to their web activity data and transaction history.

“Amazon Managed Blockchain Access and Query provides frictionless access to the blockchain network and its data so developers can easily create their Web3 applications,” said Saman Michael Far, vice president of technology for AWS Financial Services.

This service enhancement is expected to lead to more insightful decision making and improved operational efficiency for customers.

The access functionality of the AMB has been extended to provide serverless and scalable access to the blockchain. This enables developers to interact with digital assets and distributed applications across multiple blockchains without the need for specialized infrastructure, utilizing standard remote procedure calls (a mechanism for assigning specific functions to external computing sources). The service will initially expand support for the Bitcoin network.

AMB’s query functionality enables developers to access blockchain data across multiple chains, starting with Bitcoin and Ethereum, through an application programming interface (API). Amazon is introducing a pay-as-you-go model for the service, a move aimed at improving accessibility and affordability for users.

Potential use cases for the expanded AMB service include custody and wallet encryption applications as well as Web3 consumer engagement utilizing non-fungible tokens (NFTs). Amazon’s enhancements to these services underscore its commitment to the Web3 space, positioning the tech giant as a key player in the transformation of global blockchain adoption.
