OpenAI triggered a copyright controversy by using game content to train Sora

CoinVoice has learned recently that according to TechCrunch, OpenAI’s new video generation AI model Sora was found to have been trained using game content including ‘Super Mario’, ‘Call of Duty’, and Twitch streamer images. Legal experts have warned that this may involve longer copyright disputes.

Experts point out that game videos often contain multiple layers of copyright such as the copyright of the game developer, unique player-generated content, and user-created maps. Unauthorized use of such content to train AI models may be considered infringement, and users may still be exposed to legal risk for publishing or using the resulting copyrighted content, even if the AI company claims fair use.

In addition, the output involves trademark or portrait rights issues, which may also add to the legal challenge. [Original link]
