The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) officially announced the end of Gary Gensler’s chairmanship. According to the statement issued by the institution, today is Gensler’s last day at the SEC, and his leadership role, which he has held since assuming this position in 2021, has also come to an end.
The SEC, referring to Gensler’s contributions, highlighted his extensive career in public service. Before joining the Commission, Gensler served as Chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), Under Secretary of the Treasury for Domestic Finance, Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Financial Markets, and Senior Advisor to U.S. Senator Paul Sarbanes. According to the statement released, his extensive experience in the financial markets was one of the cornerstones of his leadership at the SEC.
The SEC said, “Chairman Gensler has had a long career in public service,” and added, “We are working together to advance the Commission’s mission of protecting investors, maintaining fair, orderly, and efficient markets, and promoting capital formation with Gensler, who brings his extensive experience and knowledge of financial markets to the chairmanship.
The statement said, ‘As Commission Members, we maintain our integrity even though we approach policy issues from different perspectives.’ It added, ‘Chairman Gensler is dedicated to bipartisan cooperation and respectful exchange of ideas, which has helped us improve our service to the American people. We are deeply grateful for this.’
