Gate News Report, March 19 — Streaming platform Netflix officially announced the main cast of the FTX-themed series “The Altruists.” The show will focus on the rise and fall of Sam Bankman-Fried (SBF) and Caroline Ellison, recreating one of the most iconic events in the crypto industry from 2019 to 2022.

According to official descriptions, the plot will center on two young entrepreneurs attempting to reshape the global financial system, culminating in their being accused of misappropriating approximately $8 billion of customer funds. The storyline is expected to cover key moments such as the rapid expansion of crypto trading platforms, risk management failures, and systemic collapse.

In terms of cast, Anthony Boyle will play SBF, and Julia Garner will portray Caroline Ellison, forming the main characters. William Mapother will appear as psychological counselor George Lerner, depicting internal management and psychological battles; Jennifer Grey will play Ellison’s mother, Sarah Fisher Ellison, providing a family perspective.

Industry-related roles are also a highlight. Actor Chen Tang will portray CZ, illustrating his strategic conflicts with SBF at critical moments; Alex Lawther will play former Alameda executive Sam Trabucco; Matt Rife will portray Ryan Salame, touching on sensitive topics like political funding flows.

Additionally, Hudson Williams will play Duncan Rheingans-Yoo, co-founder of Modulo Capital; Marianna Phung will portray Lily Zhang, with plot points possibly involving fund operations and investment structures before the FTX collapse. Paul Reiser and Robin Weigert will play SBF’s parents, further enriching the character narratives.

The series comes at a time when the crypto industry is gradually emerging from a period of turbulence, with ongoing reflections on the FTX incident. As one of the most impactful industry risk events in recent years, its dramatization may deepen public understanding of crypto asset regulation, platform transparency, and fund security issues.

As production progresses, “The Altruists” is expected to become an important cultural bridge connecting the crypto industry with the mainstream market, potentially reigniting discussions around Bitcoin and the entire digital asset ecosystem.
