Gate News reports that on March 18, the German government announced its data center expansion strategic plan on March 17 local time. According to the plan, by 2030, the computing power of Germany’s general data centers will at least double compared to 2025, with dedicated AI computing power increasing at least fourfold from 2025 levels. German Minister for Digital and National Modernization, Carsten Wirthberger, stated that this strategy aims to meet the rapidly growing data processing demands driven by AI applications, cloud services, and digitalization, and pointed out, “Globally, we clearly still have a lot of catching up to do.” The upcoming strategic document, which is to be submitted for cabinet approval, proposes 28 specific measures, with the core goal of making Germany a leading data center hub in Europe with data sovereignty.
