Greater Bay Technology Completes All-Solid-State Battery Sample Production

GateNews

Gate News message, April 16 — Greater Bay Technology, a battery startup backed by China’s Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC), has completed production of its first A-sample all-solid-state battery cells, according to reports from Electrek and Interesting Engineering on April 15. The battery features an organic-inorganic composite solid electrolyte system that overcomes key technical challenges previously limiting commercialization of solid-state technology.

Testing showed the liquid-electrolyte-free design delivers low fire risk and maintains stability under extreme conditions including nail penetration and thermal shock tests. The battery achieves energy density of 260–500 Wh/kg and supports 2–3C fast charging, significantly reducing charge time. Performance metrics match lithium-ion battery lifecycle durability while addressing critical EV battery requirements: safety, energy density, and charging speed.

Greater Bay Technology plans to scale production to gigawatt-hour (GWh) capacity by end of 2026, with the technology set to debut in GAC’s premium electric vehicle brand Hyptec. The company has filed over 50 patents covering electrolyte composition and cell manufacturing processes. The technology has already been included in China’s National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) key projects, positioning the startup to potentially become the first to deploy solid-state batteries in commercial vehicles.
