Over 1 Million Online Banking Accounts Compromised in 2025, Credentials Freely Shared on Dark Web: Kaspersky

Gate News message, April 18 — According to cybersecurity firm Kaspersky, over one million online banking accounts served by the world’s 100 largest banks fell victim to infostealer malware in 2025, with credentials freely shared on the dark web. The countries with the highest median number of compromised accounts per bank were India, Spain, and Brazil.

Attackers are increasingly shifting from traditional computer-based banking malware to credential theft techniques, including infostealer infections and underground marketplace distribution. Mobile banking threats surged significantly, with attacks involving mobile banking malware rising approximately 1.5 times in 2025 compared to 2024.

Detections of infostealer malware on personal computers grew 59% globally from 2024 to 2025, according to Kaspersky Digital Footprint Intelligence, which tracks compromised credentials and data leaks associated with cybercriminal activity.
