Gate News message, April 18 — Pi Network has introduced its first Smart Contract feature on the Testnet, marking a significant step toward ecosystem utility. The new feature focuses on subscription payments, allowing users to set up recurring transactions directly on-chain.
The Smart Contract system enables users to approve a subscription once, after which payments occur automatically within pre-set limits. Crucially, users retain full control of their funds in their wallet, avoiding the need for repeated approvals or upfront full payments. The feature supports real-world use cases including e-commerce platforms, streaming services, and online tools—allowing users to pay for subscriptions similarly to Web2 apps while maintaining custody of their assets. Pi Network released a new framework called PiRC2 to support developers, enabling them to test features, identify bugs, and propose improvements in a safe Testnet environment.
The launch signals Pi Network’s shift from mining-focused operations toward building a full ecosystem powered by Smart Contract tools. While functionality currently remains on the Testnet, successful testing could pave the way for mainnet deployment, bringing utility to millions of users. Development efforts will continue to prioritize usability and reliability.
