TRON Community Initiates v4.8.1 New Features Proposal Discussion, Proposing to Adjust SELFDESTRUCT Instruction Execution Behavior

Gate News: On March 13, the TRON community officially initiated a discussion about the new features in v4.8.1. The plan is to adjust the execution behavior and costs of the SELFDESTRUCT instruction in the TRON Virtual Machine (TVM) to further improve compatibility with Ethereum’s EIP-6780. According to the current proposal, if the feature is ultimately enabled, the SELFDESTRUCT instruction will only actually delete the contract when called within the same transaction that created it; in other cases, it will only transfer the contract’s assets without deleting the contract. Additionally, the energy consumption for this instruction will be adjusted from 0 to 5000. The proposal is still under community discussion. The TRON developer community is actively discussing the impact of the feature, the deployment timeline, and ecosystem adaptation, and will decide whether to officially enable the feature based on community consensus. TRON also encourages developers to participate actively in the discussion and recommends that developers using the SELFDESTRUCT instruction stay informed about the proposal’s progress and prepare for adaptation in advance.
