U.S. Launches Tariff Refund System for $166 Billion in Illegal Duties on April 20

GateNews

Gate News message, April 15 — The Trump administration will officially launch a tariff refund system on April 20 to return $166 billion in duties to importers. These tariffs were ruled “illegal” by the U.S. Supreme Court earlier this year, according to Reuters.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) stated in a court filing on April 14 that the first phase of the refund processing system has been substantially completed. Refunds will be distributed electronically with interest applied where applicable, replacing the previous case-by-case processing method.

As of April 9, approximately 56,000 importers have completed the electronic refund process, with a combined total of $127 billion in refunds already processed.
