Gate News message, April 20 — World has unveiled an upgraded version of its World ID protocol, positioning it as a full-stack proof-of-human system for digital services, enterprise platforms, consumer applications, and AI-driven agents. The network now spans approximately 160 countries, with close to 18 million individuals having completed biometric verification through Orb devices.
The updated protocol introduces enhanced privacy protections while maintaining usability across different environments. Key features include multi-key management, key rotation, recovery mechanisms, and session handling to support enterprise-grade security. The system uses zero-knowledge cryptographic techniques to confirm humanness without revealing identifying information, with one-time-use mechanisms preventing linkability between separate interactions.
World ID is now designed for expanded use cases including AI agent environments, where autonomous systems perform tasks on behalf of individuals, with verification establishing accountability for automated actions. For enterprises, the protocol supports human continuity to ensure the same verified individual is consistently recognized across interactions without exposing personal data.
Consumer applications including online dating, gaming, digital ticketing, and live event ticketing are targeted to distinguish real users from automated accounts. Enterprise communication and document workflows will use cryptographic verification to confirm that actions such as video participation or digital signing are performed by authenticated humans. A dedicated application for managing World ID credentials is being introduced in beta phase.
