Paul Walczak was sentenced to 18 months in prison and ordered to pay $4.38 million for 13 counts of tax fraud for failing to pay over $10 million in taxes. He pleaded guilty in November 2024 and submitted a pardon application around the election. However, despite Trump pardoning other "Make America Great Again" (MAGA) supporters after taking office, Walczak's application was denied.
Subsequently, Walczak's mother, Elizabeth Fago, was invited to Mar-a-Lago to attend a fundraising dinner with an entry fee of $1 million, providing her with the opportunity to communicate face-to-face with Trump. Less than three weeks after she attended the dinner, Trump granted her son Walczak a full and unconditional pardon on April 23.
A White House official responded to The New York Times, stating that Wolczak "is targeted by the Biden administration due to his family's conservative political stance." According to the U.S. Department of Justice website, Trump was in office until May 27, granting a total of 40 pardons. On the 27th, the White House also announced that Trump would pardon reality TV stars Todd and Julie Chrisley, who are accused of tax evasion and bank fraud.
