The existing appchain eco faces challenges of a “Walled Garden” and friction despite the eco being interoperable. These limitations are mostly attributed to the architecture and technology of the existing solutions. One observation is that no appchain solution provides top-notch security, access to Ethereum liquidity, seamless interoperability, etc.
How do we fix the “walled garden” issue in existing appchain ecos? Until now, liquidity has either been fragmented, or these ecos are interoperable but saddled with friction. Polygon CDK (Chain Development Kit) fixes this. pic.twitter.com/LLDc7SVRtL— Polygon (Labs) (@0xPolygonLabs) August 29, 2023
According to the latest report by Polygon, its CDK (Chain Development Kit) is a perfect answer to these limitations. Polygon CDK is an open-source and modular codebase that can be used to launch L2 chains backed by the ZK-technology of Polygon anywhere in the world
According to Polygon, this initiative is fast with one-click access to the entire liquidity of Ethereum. In addition, it is automatic and provides smooth access to the shared liquidity of all Polygon chains. On top of that, it provides greater security and ensures interoperability with all other Polygon chains is near-instant. Polygon CDK is also reported to introduce some new value propositions for blockchain including Modularity and customizability. This implies that developers can make chains as they require by using the Polygon CDK component
The blog post further explains that an NFT-specific appchain can for example select zkEVM ution environment, select validium mode, and then choose centralized sequencer
For data availability, a local DAC (Data Availability Committee) can be selected. The devs can then tinker with the time between posting ZK proofs to Ethereum, thus optimizing running costs. Finally, they can decide what token may be used for gas. Importantly, despite all these customizations, this hypothetical NFT Chain is still able to seamlessly interoperate and share liquidity with all other Polygon chains.

Other Benefits of the Polygon CDK
Another benefit is Bleeding Edge and future-proof ZK tech. Beyond doubt, Polygon’s ZK technology leads the eco in efficiency and speed. Chains that make use of the CDK leverage its core development work. In this case, the chains become future-proof by default.
According to the team, the use cases of the CDK are in line with the Polygon 2.0 which is expected to upgrade the entire network to establish a “Value Layer of the Internet.” This is said to be a core protocol that ensures that creating, sending, and receiving is as seamless as sending and receiving information via the Internet. It makes use of ZK architecture and ensures that infinite scalability and seamless interconnectivity are enhanced without compromising security
Polygon CDK unlocks the vision of the Value Layer, offering an easy-to-use environment for launching Polygon chains. We are excited about what all the talented builders out there will create with it, so make sure to check out the documentation for Polygon CDK to begin experimenting today, and be sure to tune into the blog for all things Polygon 2.0.
