Eine Gruppe ehemaliger Ethereum-Foundation-Forscher hat Ethlabs ins Leben gerufen, eine unabhängige Non-Profit-Forschungs- und Entwicklungsorganisation. Das Labor wurde gemeinsam von Ansgar Dietrichs, Barnabé Monnot, Caspar Schwarz-Schilling, Josh Rudolf und Julian Ma gegründet, mit Unterstützung von BitMine Immersion Technologies, SharpLink, dem Ethereum-Mitbegründer Joe Lubin sowie Akteuren aus dem Ökosystem, darunter Anchorage, Octant und SNZ. Ethlabs konzentriert sich auf grundlegende Ethereum-Protokollforschung, unter anderem zu Finalität, Skalierung, Datenverfügbarkeit, dem Design der virtuellen Maschine und Protokollökonomie. Förderer werden die technische Roadmap der Organisation nicht kontrollieren.
