Gate News update, April 13, the Hong Kong Police Force reported on the “White Hat” platform that a woman in her 50s was targeted by a crypto pig-butchering scam, with losses exceeding 2 million Hong Kong dollars. According to the police, the scammers proactively followed the woman on Instagram and initiated conversation, quickly building a romantic relationship by asking about her well-being. Afterwards, the scammers claimed to be “crypto investment experts” and lured the victim into investing. During the scam, the perpetrator first asked the victim to transfer HKD 40k as a fee to open an investment website account, and then in 7 installments asked her to carry cash to a physical exchange shop to exchange it for USDT, and transfer the USDT to a designated address through an electronic wallet. Once the funds were received, the scammers immediately disappeared.
