BOE Chief Economist Hugh Pill Signals Need for UK Rate Hike Within 12 Months on July 9

According to a BBC podcast interview on July 9, Hugh Pill, chief economist of the Bank of England, signaled that the UK needs to raise interest rates within the next year. Pill, one of two Monetary Policy Committee members who voted for a 25 basis point rate increase last month, stated that inflation remained above the central bank's target for 53 out of his 56 months at the BOE, suggesting the bank had been overly optimistic about Britain's trend growth rate.
