CME Commodities Diverge on July 2; Natural Gas Surges While Crude Oil Slumps

According to CME data, natural gas on July 2 saw both trading volume and open interest increase, with volume rising 81,054 contracts and open interest climbing 15,118 contracts. Gold and silver also posted gains in open interest despite lower trading volumes. In contrast, copper, WTI crude oil, and Brent crude oil all experienced declines in both volume and open interest, signaling cooling activity across energy and industrial metals markets.
