Domyn Launches 400B+ Open-Source AI Model With Fraunhofer, EU Backing

According to Beating, Italian AI startup Domyn plans to release a fully open-source and reproducible large language model with over 400 billion parameters within one year. The EUROPA consortium, formed by Domyn and Germany's Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, has been selected for the European Commission's Frontier AI Grand Challenge program and granted computing resources from the EuroHPC public supercomputing network.

Domyn's CEO Uljan Sharka noted that training a frontier model from scratch requires less computational power than providing remote inference services to millions of users, and the European public computing infrastructure can meet the project's demands. The initiative has secured funding from Abu Dhabi's G42, Eurizon Capital, Rabobank, and BNY.
