Four AI Giants Release Frontier Models in 3 Weeks, xAI's Grok 4.5 Undercuts Competitors by 60%

According to official announcements, xAI, Anthropic, OpenAI, and Moonshot AI released four frontier AI models between July 8 and July 24. xAI shipped Grok 4.5 on July 8 at $2 per million input tokens and $6 per million output tokens, undercutting Claude Opus 4.8 pricing by over 60%. Anthropic released Claude Opus 5 on July 24 at $5 input and $25 output per million tokens with a 1 million token context window. OpenAI moved GPT-5.6 to general availability on July 9 as three tiers: Sol at $5/$30, Terra at $2.50/$15, and Luna at $1/$6 per million tokens. Moonshot AI published Kimi K3 on July 16, a 2.8 trillion parameter model priced at $3 input and $15 output per million tokens, with full open weights to be released by July 27.
