Google and MediaTek Expand TPU v9 Collaboration, Introducing Triggerfish Upgrade Chip for AI Agents

According to ChainCatcher, citing analyst Guo Ming-chi from Tianfeng International, Google has deepened its collaboration with MediaTek on TPU v9 to develop an upgraded Triggerfish chip targeted at AI agents and reinforcement learning applications. MediaTek has secured an exclusive order for 1–2 million units of the new chip.

Triggerfish features 2–3 times greater SRAM capacity than the base version, upgraded memory from HBM4 to HBM4E, and includes specialized silicon for reinforcement learning and AI agent coordination. Production is expected to begin in late 2027, with mass shipments starting in 2028. The chip is priced approximately 30% higher than the base version.
