Greece Rejects Binance's MiCA License Application in June, Reportedly Amid ECB Pressure

According to ChainCatcher, Greece rejected Binance's market authorization application under the EU's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) between June 7-15, 2026, reportedly following political pressure from ECB President Christine Lagarde. Binance had submitted its application to Greece's capital markets authority earlier in 2026 and passed critical technical reviews, but the approval was reversed within the cited period. Lagarde indicated to Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in May that Europe does not welcome Binance, citing concerns that the exchange's substantial role in stablecoin liquidity could complicate the ECB's digital euro initiative. Following the setback in Greece, Binance has shifted its licensing efforts toward France.
