Hungary's 10-Year Bond Yield Falls to 5.16%, Narrows UK Spread to Record Low

According to Jin10, on June 25, Hungary's 10-year government bond yield dropped to 5.16%, narrowing the spread with UK counterparts to less than 50 basis points. The spread has contracted significantly since March, when bondholders required an additional 260 basis points of yield premium on forint debt versus UK securities, according to Thomas Christiansen, head of emerging market debt at Union Bank of Switzerland. The narrowing reflects investor confidence in the new government's economic reforms and plans to join the eurozone.
