Iran Declines US Talks in Doha on June 30, Brent Crude Rises to $74.75 as Ceasefire Hopes Dim

According to Al Jazeera, Iran declined to meet with US envoys Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff in Doha on Tuesday, June 30, as hopes for a quick ceasefire in the prolonged conflict faded significantly. Instead, Qatar's prime minister held talks with the Americans. On the same day, Brent crude rose to $74.75 per barrel, but corrected to $73.29 by Wednesday morning amid uncertainty over negotiations.

According to Middle East Institute senior fellow Alex Vatanka, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf fear that a visit to Doha could backfire domestically. Both officials want to see tangible implementation of the June 17 memorandum before engaging further, including unfreezing Iranian assets and ending escalation in Lebanon, Ghalibaf said.
