Japan's Real Wages Rise 1.9% Year-on-Year on June 5, Fourth Consecutive Monthly Gain in Four Years

According to Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, real wages rose 1.9% year-on-year on June 5, marking the fourth consecutive monthly increase and the longest streak in four years. The increase exceeded economist expectations of 1.7%. Nominal wages grew 3.5%, also surpassing the market consensus forecast of 3.1%. The stronger wage growth data reinforce the case for the Bank of Japan to raise interest rates this month.
