Major County Sheriffs Drop Opposition to CLARITY Act After Section 604 Concerns Addressed

According to the Major County Sheriffs of America, the organization shifted to a neutral position on the CLARITY Act on Friday after the Senate Banking Committee addressed its concerns over Section 604. The group had warned in a May 14 letter that the provision, which protects developers from liability for user activity on decentralized platforms, could create loopholes for crypto-related crimes. MCSA President Bob Gualtieri said the group still seeks amendments to include state law enforcement in Section 309, which directs Treasury to study decentralized finance and illicit finance risks, noting that state and local agencies handle initial investigations into digital asset-enabled fraud, ransomware and trafficking.
