Microsoft Raises Xbox Console Prices by Up to $150 Starting Aug. 1, Citing Rising Chip Costs

According to Microsoft on Thursday, Xbox Series S consoles with 512 GB storage will increase by $100 to about $500, effective Aug. 1, while 1 TB models will rise by $150. The entry-level Xbox Series X will now start at approximately $750. Microsoft attributed the price hike to soaring component costs, stating that console storage and memory prices have surged more than 2.5 times over recent months, with expectations for another doubling by fall 2027. The company noted that consoles are typically sold at a loss, making them particularly vulnerable to the current memory crisis affecting the consumer electronics industry.
